Reincarnation of the soul is a concept which preaches that a person can be born again as another person in another life. This stems from the belief of the immortality of the soul. Many religions preach that the soul of a person is immortal. The body of a person is what is mortal. So when death happens, the body perishes, but the soul lives on. The soul then occupies another new body, and that is how the concept of immortality of the soul has thrived over the centuries. While there is no scientific proof of the truth behind the concept of immortality, there have been instances of people remembering things from another life, thereby adding credibility to the fact that the concept of reincarnation of the soul is true.
Reincarnation is a concept followed by many religions. The Hindus, who are followers of Hinduism, as well as the Buddhists, who follow the teachings of the Buddha, are some of those who believe in the concept of reincarnation.

I believe you are asking the meaning of reincarnation of the soul, which is a rather ambiguous term for many people. There have been volumes of books written each giving the interpretation of the author and many people ask, what is reincarnation.
Hindu scriptures Bhagavad-vita, teaches the soul never dies, it is eternal as God is eternal. Therefore, the belief is, the soul passes into another body at the death of its present body. This is called reincarnation of the soul, the soul continues to live on in another body, be that a human body or some other body. The belief is, if one thinks of God, while dying the soul will go to God. If, when dying one thinks of an animal, the soul will be incarnated, "continue to live the body of an animal. As each body dies the soul returns to earth to live in another body
This teaching comes from the teachings of Krishna, and is a belief of the Hindu religion. Krishna is believed to be the Supreme Personality of the Godhead who was physically present on earth over 5000 years ago. Consciousness at death determines what happens to the soul as it goes on living.
In the Jewish Torah, the Jewish Scriptures, the teaching of reincarnation is, each soul is sent into the physical world dwelling within a body. Each person has an inclination toward one of the 613 mitsvot within the Torah, rules in the Torah. The soul has challenges, talents and capabilities and a particular mitzvot, which is his/her mission in life. If, the mission is completed in one lifetime, the soul returns to God. If, the mission is not completed, the soul returns to earth to complete its mission through another body. This concept is called gilgal neshamot, which means reincarnation. This concept is found in the teaching of Kabbalah.
Christians believe the soul is immortal, it will never die. In the Christian scriptures, the Bible, is taught the concept of immortal life, meaning the soul will never die.
