Bull is the commercial hub of Birmingham which developed in the Middle Ages. Peter de Birmingham, a local landowner was granted a charter to open a market place which later came to be known as Bull Ring. It grew up to a convenient place for trading centre by the edge of the sandstone city. The Bull Ring urbanized into a retail market area with classy stores.

The Bull Ring was redeveloped in 1955, enabling 140 shops with a total area of 350,000 square feet. On the western side of the building ,Laurence Broderick erected a 2.2 metre tall bronze sculpture of a turning bull named as the Guardian. The new BullRing recorded 36.5 million and thus became most popular shopping centre.
