Type one diabetes occurs when the body does not produce any insulin. Insulin is important because it is a hormone which helps to move sugar from the blood to the cells in the body. It is often caused by an autoimmune disorder where the body doesn't realize that the organ belongs to the body and it attacks it. With type one diabetes the body doesn't recognise the Pancreas in which the insulin is created. This then causes the body to attack it. Generally type one diabetes requires insulin injections to treat the condition.
Type two diabetes is probably the most common and it occurs when the body doesn't effectively produce enough insulin to move the sugar out of the bloodstream. Some sugar does move out of the bloodstream, just not enough. The cause of this is generally usually obesity or lack of exercise. It was originally thought to only really affect adults but more and more children are being diagnosed these days too. It is always better to consult your doctor if you suspect you may have diabetes, as they will be able to tell you which treatment is better for you.
