What Makes Everyone Have Different Colored Eyes?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The short answer is genetics. Genetics are complicated and eye color, diseases, defects, and coat color are often linked in dogs and factor in some way. Like many white dogs (and cats) especially with blue eyes (or odd/split) are hard of hearing or deaf. The same genes that can cause blue eyes can also be linked to hearing (can be different genes which cause the blue eyes and so blue eyes aren't always deaf, it is usually associated with white as well) Breeding two dogs of certain color or that both carry particular color genes can often result in severely deformed puppies one of the many defects being no, smaller or very deformed eyes (In most breeds it's the merle or dapple or douple dapple gene and closely related genes and in some breeds the merle gene can actually tend to result in a white dog). This is one of the reasons it is very important to have extensive and accurate knowledge of not just your dog and the dog they are breeding with but as many dogs behind them as possible. Since this is in dogs I am assuming you mean dogs or did you mean people? Here's some links to some info.
