How The Enzymes Are Produced?

Answer Question

It has been known for more than one hundred years that enzymes are proteins. It has also been known for long time that proteins consist of chain of amino acids. However, it was not until 1959 when it became possible, as a result of refinement in analytical techniques, to say how many amino acids are present in a given enzyme.

A number of amino acids become interconnected in specific amino acid chains and together, these chains become arranged to form the various polypeptides and proteins of the body. Each enzyme is composed of very specific set of amino acid chains. There are basic amino acids. At this point, we do not need to bother ourselves with their names.

Al enzymes merely differ in the number and sequence of these 20 amino acids which are assembled into chains of varying lengths. For this reason, they all differ from each other a little in appearance. In general, you can picture any enzymes of follows; the amino acids are arranged like a string of pearls which is to wound together like a ball of yarn in such a manner that there is and indentation at one point, a very precisely shaped opening. This opening is the focus of everything; it is the active site.
