Can I Deduct From My Rent, The 11 Days It Took My Landlord To Fix The Central Heating In My House ?

Per Arkansas law the landlord must Make the house or apartment comply with all building, housing, and health codes which significantly affect health and safety. Provide for properly working plumbing and heating. Hot and cold running water, bathroom, shower or tub, kitchen etc. I am on social security disability. The landlord is aware of my type of disabilitly and knows I need to have heat so that I don't end up in the hospital. My neighbor loaned me a space heater during this time. My landlord never offered to provide one during those 11 days.

You may want to get some legal counsel about this. Do you have a lease agreement? If so, what does it say about the the landlord's responsibilities for upkeep? Have you addressed this issue with him? Before deducting anything from your rent, talk to him and see if you can come to a mutual agreement. He should be full aware of the laws in your particular State. If he's not willing to work with you, call the legal assistance people in your city who help people on fixed incomes.
