    if he's your best mate he will understand what ever you tell him. If he has a girlfriend, don't go there; but if he doesn't, ask him how he feels about your relationship as 'just friends.' Ask him if he wants more. If he runs, then he isn't a true friend; if he says he wants to be just friends, then do that. It's better to be just friends than not being nothing to him at all.
