Can Dog Use Human Medicine, Such As Eye Ointment For Infection?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Active ingredients of all medicines used for humans or animals are same. But there is difference in the concentration of active ingredients of medicines for humans and animals. Dose of these medicines is also different for human and animal use. Dose of medicine in humans and animals is recommended according to body weight. Duration of the use of the medicine is also important and depends upon severity of the disease.

Many medicines that are being used in humans are also approved by FDA to be used in animals but there are many human medicines which are not approved by FDA to be used in animals. But vets can prescribe these medicines legally because they know how to calculate dose of the medicine and what are side effects. So, you should not use any medicine either for human or animal use in your dog without consultation of vet.
