    I Am 16 Year Girl Affected By Dermatomyositis. I Take A Large Amount Of Tablets (steroids) To Cure It , Do These Tablets Put On Weight? I Feel Like I'm Eating Too Much After Starting To Take In These Tablets? Can I Control It? Can You Give Me Some Advice?

    Presumably you have the Juvenile form.

    Yes, steroid medications can cause people to put on weight; they do increase appetite -- dramatically in some cases. Terminal cancer patients are given steroids to try to get them eating and prolong their lives, for instance.

    You might have to weigh up the benefits and drawbacks; if you didn't have the steroid meds, what would the alternative be? Maybe it's a price worth paying.

    It is a matter worth discussing with your consultant / other specialist. Other meds and forms of treatment might be just as effective at treating the Dermatomyositis, but not have such an effect on your appetite. Read about other treatments.

    Dermatomyositis sounds like a swine of a condition. There is a lot of support out there in Internet-Land, search for Juvenile Dermatomyositis, JM and myositis (American Myositis Association here).
