A desert is by definition an arid place, i.e. It is dry, and there is little vegetation. It may however also be cold, the Antarctic is a perfect example of a dry but very cold desert, in fact it is the world's biggest desert, and one of the driest, with relative humidity close to zero for almost all of the year. The Gobi desert in China is also cold for most of the year.
