Why Can't I Look At Or Allow People To Take Photos Of Me?

Ive never really been a picture person but over the last couple of years i will literally cry if someone takes a photo of me, and even if the say it looks good i will defiently refuse to look at it. What's wrong with me? I mean i can still look in the mirror (as long as no one else is with me). Do i have some kind of phobia??

It's possible you do.  I think what happened to you could be caused by many things, three of which I'll offer:

    1.  That you saw a horrible picture of yourself one time and are afraid this is going to continue and you will always take bad pictures.  This may or may not be the case.  Lighting is a huge factor in taking good pictures.  I always take horrid pictures (meaning all pictures of me look horrible to me) but I'm still hoping to get a good one.

    2.  You may be avoiding the spotlight and not wanting people to look at you because of some guilt you feel.  I could be way off base here paigesum but I am just trying to look at this problem objectively.  If this is the case, you need to work on forgiving yourself for anything you have ever done.  Every person in the world has done something he or she is not proud of - we're all human and we make mistakes.  Unfortunately, we are hardest on ourselves, meaning we will "kick" ourselves over and over for something we did.

    3.  It could be from something you haven't done but something that was done to you by someone else that you feel ashamed about.
Again, this is not something that would be your fault and no blame is to be laid upon you.

Try to love yourself.  Look at your positive points and never spend much time looking at your negative points as these tend to increase if you spend too much time on them.  You're one of us all - human, and all of us have obstacles we have to try to overcome.  You can get over this if you work on it.

I don't like having my picture taken either.  It just reminds me how I look, and I'd don't need to be reminded.  Anyhow, your reaction seems to be a bit extreme.  A lot of people don't like to be photographed, but not to the point of tears.  I won't say it's a phobia, but look at it this way, you're not afraid of Jell-O.  I'm sorry, I don't mean to be flippant about it.  I don't have enough experience to know whether or not you have a phobia.  If you can accept any of the reasons faydra gave you, and they work, that's fine.  In case you have no reason to feel guilty about yourself, and it's important enough for you to do something about it, some counseling could help to figure out what the problem is and how you can overcome it.

I know how Jello-O is made and what it's made from. I was talking about a Jell-O phobia, and there is one.:)

In my case i am plain ugly. Well ,ok not that bad but definitely not photogenic. I have hated it from i was a child and i blame my mum. Wether it was my birthday, my first communion or my confirmation, she always had me kitted out in my Sunday best and off to the photographers. I was made to sit still for ages each time and at that age its painfully boring. Its like watching paint dry. So i think my hatred of being photographed stems from that. Mind you, i was a lovely baby.

We have to  face it , unless you are a supermodel , it seems to me,  most of us seem to hate photos of ourselves . We always find fault and pick them to pieces .  We say things like , if the camera adds ten pounds then someone hit me with helium or something .
Maybe it started for some of us when our mothers kept showing off our embarrassing naked baby photos !
I'm sure there are some absolutely beautiful photos of you out there , but like i said i think it is our nature to find fault in them .

I'm not one for photos, either. I just tell anyone, "I know what I look like" silly, isn't it? I guess I don't care for photographs because I ALWAYS always- everytime- haven't ever not) had red eye! It's like I'm possessed!
