Can A Movie Be Made Without A Script?

Yes, in the sense that the actors may not have exact lines and/ or are expected to improvise. This has quite often happened with specific scenes or sections of dialogue; usually it is something the director imposes on the actors in order to get more spontaneous reactions from them, or sometimes the actors themselves deviate from the script (the Marx Brothers were notorious for this – they drove directors mad, but many of their "ad-libbed" lines have made it into film history.)

Possibly the best known example of a virtually unscripted film is the 1999 blockbuster "The Blair Witch Project" from Hexan films. This horror film's popularity was enormously enhanced by the rumours that it was actually a documentary, and the three characters really had disappeared in mysterious circumstances.

What is true is that the film was as near to being unscripted as possible. The actors were given rough outlines of the story from day do day, and thereafter they improvised. Sometimes the director even introduced genuine shocks to get a better reaction from the cast. You can learn more about the production of this film if you click here.
