Generally all life coaches should possess the same kind of skills but unfortunately not every life coach does! The first thing that you really need to check for is their certification. All professional life coaches have been on some kind of course in order to help them learn the necessary skills needed for life coaching. So, you should always be able to see a copy of their certificate, either on their wall or they should have one with them. Generally a life coach who has an International Coach Federation certificate is a professional, qualified coach and they are the best people to go with.

Also, another thing you should really look at is references. Does the coach have any client feedback? Do you know anybody who uses the same life coach as you? If the coach has good feedback it is a good sign that they are good at what they do, if they have negative feedback it is better to go with somebody else.
