UNIX is the official trade mark in a computer operating system. It came into existence somewhere around the 1960's and 1970's by a grouping of AT&T today the organisation has reached across the globe and include various commercial as well as non profit organisations.

The Open Group, an industry standards consortium currently owns the trademark of UNIX. This word is not an acronym but is derived from the naming of early computer systems, like ENIAC and MISTIC. Today the systems that are currently encountered are Linux and Mac OS X, which are somewhat UNIX operating system. The earlier operating system has the traits of either Version 7 UNIX or UNIX System V.

Some of the widely used Unix commands are Directory and file creation and navigation, File viewing and editing, Text processing, File comparison, Miscellaneous shell tools, System administration and Communication.
