Do Gazelles Only Live In Africa?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Gazelles belong to the larger group of horned mammals classified under the term antelopes; gazelles are mainly found in eastern and parts of central Africa in savanna and grass land habitats; gazelles are also found in small numbers in Asia especially in the central and western part of the continent.

The gazelle is a medium sized animal standing about 60 to 90 cm in height measured at shoulder level with a pair of horns and are primarily light brown in color though some species like Thomson's gazelle have a black stripe on their body while the Dama gazelle has white markings on its face, hind quarters and legs.

The species of gazelle mainly found in Asia is the Black-tailed or Persian gazelle, the Dorcas gazelle, the Mountain gazelle and the Chinkara found in Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and India and in the Gobi Desert situated in Central Asia. Gazelles in most parts where they exist have become endangered on account of loss of habitat and hunting.
