You can get money from your 401k,but you have to pay a penalty, also paper work is involved. This is not a good idea.

Can I move part of my 401K into a self directed IRA? Am I allowed to have both a 401K and IRA at the same time. The problem is that I do not need the money in my 401k but I might like to use it for investments.
