Regular milk is not recommended for cats because it can be too rich for their digestive systems. It can cause diarrhoea in cats that are lactose intolerant. Kittens especially can have difficulty digesting it. There are other things that you can provide for your cat which are healthier. For young kittens that have been separated from their mothers before the age of weaning, pet stores sell kitten milk replacer. It is formulated to contain the same vitamins as the mother's milk and is gentle on kittens' digestive systems. Also, there is special milk sold at pet food stores for cats who are lactose intolerant. It is a safer bet than regular milk from the store, which may cause your cat problems. Not all cats react badly to milk, but it is better be on the safe side.

Essential to a cat's health is plenty of clean water. Change your cat's water dish regularly and keep it within easy reach.

It is perhaps OK to give cats milk but only once in a while. Cats should not get into a habit of drinking milk and milk should not constitute a regular part of the cat's diet as it is not necessary and is also lacking in some vital nourishments that the cats should have in order to remain healthy. Lactose intolerant cats should not be given any external milk however; if the cat really likes milk then lactose free milk could be obtained from a pet store.

Kittens should be allowed to drink their mother's milk as nature has provided this for them, for healthy growth, in early stages of life. Milk is not a necessary item in a cat's diet and hence they can be perfectly healthy without drinking the same. In fact we know this from the facts that wild cats never get any cow milk but are capable of living perfectly healthy lives.

You shouldn't give cats regular milk as it contains too much lactic acid for them to digest resulting in a bad stomach. In most supermarkets and pet stores, Felix and Whiskas both do milk specially for kittens and cats, which is suitable for daily use.
