What Is The Tenant Law?

I was a tenant for 7 years my security deposit 7 years ago was $795 my landlord had to paint three rooms clean a stove I cleaned the carpets but he said not to his liking and I would get no deposit back. That does not seem right. I paid a whole months rent 890.00 and left in the middle of the month so he could work on the house like he asked and I get nothing back in my rent that seems wrong also. How do they get away with that?
