How Do I Wire Dual 2 Way Switches?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Im going to take this as you mean two 3 way switches controlling one light from 2 different spots as a regular switch has two black wires to it. A 3 way if correctly wired will have one hot side and one switch side. This is how its wired; on the hot side you will have two sets of wires, 1 containing 3 wires 1, black, 1 white , and 1 copper , and the other set contains 1 red, 1 black, 1 white, 1 copper. Now the copper or green wire may or may mot be there so if not then ignore the copper wire part of this, The black and red are called travelers and only go between the two boxes. This will be the same for both boxes now.  The black and red go to two same color screws on switch one per screw. The single remain black is either your power hot or containing leg to the light and goes to the common screw. Th switch leg needs a white with it to the lights to work properly and at lights color code wires and cap off. In the switch box the whites and copper wires cap off and then install all. Good luck
