    Using pythagorus theorem.

    h^2 = p ^2  + b^2

    169 = 144 + b^2

    b^2 = 169-144

    b^2 = 25

    b = 5

    The Pythagorean theorem only works for right triangles. This question is about an isosceles triangle, so taimur only calculated the part of the base on one side of where the altitude is measured. The entire base is twice that size, so the answer is 10.
