I would say that the lady in question has a very good chance of recovery, but individual circumstances come into it, a lot.

The death rate for elderly people (over age 85) with pneumonia and MRSA is about 50% (see source). That's the worst thing I can tell you.

The chance of death from MRSA infection is also generally greatest in the elderly. I'm sure you already knew that.

At least the woman you describe is "only" 80, and you didn't mention pneumonia.

A lot else depends on her prior state of health, and whether there are other complicating factors (such as diabetes or another health problem).

The actual number of people who die in the UK each year from MRSA or illnesses where MRSA was an important contributing factor is somewhere between 1000 and 5000. But the total number of identified MRSA infections is about 100,000 each year. So the general mortality rate is probably about 2.5%. Most people who get an MRSA infection do not die of it, even among the elderly.
