    Abu Bakr Muhammad Ibn Zakariya Ar-Razi spent most of his life studying, practicing and writing about medicine. Ar-Razi pioneered in medicine and the health sciences in general. He made a remarkable evolution in the fields of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Ophthalmology.

    Abu Bakr Muhammad Ibn Zakariya Ar-Razi, known as Rhazes in the West, was born in 864 C.E (251 A.H) at Ray which is situated near Tehran. When he was young, Ar-Razi was interested in music and singing. With the passage of time, Ar-Razi gradually became interested in Alchemy, Chemistry, Philosophy, Logic, Mathematics and Physics.

    Due to his fame in medicine, Abu Bakr Muhammad Ibn Zakariya Ar-Razi was appointed the Head of Physicians at the Ray Hospital, and was later given charge of the Baghdad main Hospital.

    When Ahdud Daulah asked Ar-Razi to build a hospital, he had pieces of fresh meat placed at various parts of the city. After sometime, he checked each piece and decided to make a hospital at the point where the piece of meat was less rotten. Ar-Razi worked a lot in medicine and its respective fields. His works are preserved in the form of books, some of which are Kitab al-Mansoori, Al-Hawi, Kitab al-Malooki, Kitab al-Judari wa-al Hasabah, Jami-fi-al-Tib, Maqala fi al-Hasat fi Kuli wa al-Mathana, Kitab al-Qalb, Kitab-al-Mafasil, Kitab-al-'Ilaj al-Ghoraba etc.Abu Bakr Muhammad Ibn Zakariya Ar-Razi passed away in 930 C.E.
