What Happened During The 1932 German Election Campaign?
Answers
Hitler's Nazi party made a big effort in an attempt to win the 1932 election through a sizable propaganda campaign. Joseph Goebbels headed the propaganda strategies including the use of posters, films, flags, radio, speeches, newspapers, rallies, and processions. He flew Hitler all over the country to make speeches to drum up support.
The SA activities of the time of beating up Communists was said to considerably help the Nazis. The groups of strong, armed men had helped Hitler in the past with the Munich Putsch. During the election campaign, 99 people were killed and 1125 wounded in street fights all over Germany. The Police didn't want to get involved with the S.As or the hated Communists. But the combined efforts of the Nazis and the SA were not enough to win a 50 per cent majority of the vote for Hitler's party. The Nazis could not form a stable Government even though they were the largest party in the Reichstag.
