Who Wrote The Music For The Alfred Hitchcock Films?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Composer Bernard Herrmann was the musical writer, on most of Hitchcock's films.  Herrmann wrote the scores or supervised the soundtrack (in the case of the movie Birds) for every Hitchcock film from 1955 to 1964.  The famous music from Psycho is his work.

Herrmann didn't just write for Hitchcock; he wrote or contributed to the scores of many other films: Taxi Driver, Cape Fear, Citizen Kane, to name but a few.  Herrmann also wrote the music for the original radio broadcast of Orson Wells War of the Worlds, and some episodes of the 1960s TV series The Twilight Zone.

Hermann has his own (posthumous) fan club.

Dmitri Tiomkin wrote some music for Hitchcock films: Shadow of a Doubt, Strangers on a Train, I Confess, Dial M for Murder.

Franz Waxman wrote music on the films Rebecca, Rear Window, Suspician, The Paradise Case.
