Is It Possible To Heat Water Using Direct Current (dc)?

Looking at an ordinary electric kettle that runs of the mains, it uses alternating current, so was just wondering if direct current can be used.

Sure it is, just connect the current to a resistor (that will emit heat), put it in contact with the water (while isolating them from the voltage itself - you don't want electrolysis), and you're done
