Mice have been a carrier of disease and destruction (the plague) for both humans and animals. A household can be completely mice free if it takes some precautions.
All the vents and screens in the house must be intact and well secured. A mouse is capable of getting through an opening only one quarter of an inch wide. All access points around gas, electricity and water pipes should be inspected thoroughly. The lawns outside the house should be mowed regularly. Traps can be used as disposal of the carcass is easy and swift. It is advised to avoid trying to poison mice because it could pose a danger to children and other pets in the house.
Food is the key to keeping mice away. All the food must be locked away in secure locations. An exterminator could be effective but the poisons that he uses could be detrimental to the health of human beings as well.
