It is not known as to when Mount Karisimbi erupted last. No records can be found which can let us know when it last erupted.
Mount Karisimbi is a dormant volcano of Stratovolcano type. It is located in the Virunga Mountains and borders between Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo. It stands at a height of 4507m which makes it the highest mountain of the 8 major mountains of the East African Rift Valley.
The word Karisimbi is said to be taken from the word Kinyarwanda, which in local language means Little White Shell. The name describes the white snow cap that can sometimes be seen on the volcano. Mount Karisimbi is lined by Mikeno to the north, Nyiragongo to the west and Bisoke to the east.
