Which Off-road Vehicles Did The British Army Take With Them To Help Drive Iraqi Forces Out Of Kuwait?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Apart from a good number of Challenger tanks, the British military in 1991 sent out a variety of Land Rover products including Series 3, Air Portable Lightweight, 101, 110, 90 and 130 vehicles to carry out a range of combat roles. In addition, the MoD leased locally, Discoverys and Range Rovers for non-combat communications purposes.

The older model, Series 3 Land Rovers saw action because there was simply not enough 90 and 110s to go around all the units sent to the Gulf. Many Series 3 109s were used for airfield security duties at the Dhahran airbase in Saudi Arabia.

During the liberation of Kuwait, the British Army added to their collection of Land Rovers by capturing them from the Iraqi Army.

The special forces used the stripped down 110, Desert Patrol Vehicle behind the lines and converted Land Rover 90s as small gun ships to help protect supply convoys.

In the end, Gulf War 1 lasted just 44 days from January 16 to February 28.
