Where Is New France?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

New France is that part of North America that was colonialised by the French. The process of colonialization first began with the exploration of the Saint Lawrence River and went on till the time New France finally came under the British throne. This was between the years 1534 and 1763. During one of its most crucial periods, the region of New France stretched from Lake Superior to Newfoundland and from the Gulf of Mexico to Hudson Bay. After a short while it was decided that this entire stretch would be broken up into 5 different territories. Namely; Louisiana, Hudson Bay, Canada, Newfoundland and Acadia. It was also during this period that Quebec was founded (in the year 1608) as a part of this conquest, the French were also defeated by the British. Yet, even today one sees a strong Canadian influence in this part.
