Can You Get A Doctorate From The RSAMD?

Answer Question

Well, sort of, yes and no. You can receive a doctorate from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Although officially they are awarded by the University of St.Andrews who confers the doctoral degree itself.  When one applies for a place as a doctoral (also known as a Ph.D which means Doctor of Philosophy) student, one makes two applications, one goes to the RSAMD and one goes to St. Andrews University (the oldest university in Scotland).

One can receive a doctorate from the School of Music or the School of Drama.  Students can study full or part-time, and the costs change each year.  There is no fixed taught component of the study but there is a weekly meeting with other students and visiting speakers who can improve certain areas of your research.

There is a full research department of the RSAMD which deals with research students and staff who are conducting research.
