Poetry is a way of self expression. Many of us are poets but we do not give ourselves a shot. For most people, poems are personal and are written about the way they feel, it could be about the rain, your children or a dramatic experience in your life. If you have written a poem, you should read it out to people who you think will understand it. Like, if you have written a poem about you wife, I guess she should hear it and will definitely get a positive response as she is the only one who will understand it completely. I had written a poem for my dog once. I was in a dilemma as I could not read it out to my dog, because he would not understand it. So I shared it with a person I know also has a dog and loves his dog as much as I love mine. He understood and appreciated the poem a lot.
