An easy way to remember what maebsly said is to remember that whatever the century is (10th) the years (900s) are the next lowest. 20th century is the 1900s, 21st century is the 2000s, 15th century is the 1400s, and so on. So if you're ever asked what the greatest war of the 20th century was you'd say WW II which happened between 1939 and 1945 (1900s).
