When Can Travellers Expect To See Discount Airlines Fly On Trans-Atlantic Routes?

Answer Question

Travellers can expect to see discount airlines on long-haul routes across the Atlantic Ocean within about two to three years. Ireland's Ryanair was the first carrier to announce that it was seriously examining the potential of starting up a low-cost trans-Atlantic service. According to Bloomberg News, Michael O'Leary, the company's CEO, went as far as to suggest that tickets from Europe to major North American destinations would go for as little as $12.

According to O'Leary's current plans, Ryanair would form a sister company that could manage trans-Atlantic routes and this new airline would fly a fleet of up to 50 Boeing aeroplanes. The new airline's hubs would likely be at London's Stansted Airport, and in Dublin. The first routes will probably be between London-Stansted and New York City, but the new airline will also operate routes between Dublin and major gateway cities in the US.

When the price of oil per barrel drops. And that depends on the economy. There is no sure way to answer this question. The best advice I can give is to purchase your ticket as far in advance as the airline will allow. Purchasing a ticket during off-peak times may help as well, ( weekday flights, slow periods)
