How Do I Treat A Swollen Nipple?

I have a one-year-old female Mal-Shi (Maltese/Shih-tzu) that has one nipple that is red and swollen (the nipple and the area around it). It is not secreting anything. Last night and this morning I did a warm compress on it than I applied a little neosporen to it. It looks a lot better. Is this o.k. Or is there something else I can do? Also, I had noticed her other nipples look like the tips are a little crusty and dark. Do you think she is having a false pregnancy?

Check it thoroughly if it has lumps over there. If that is the case then get its tests and biopsy soon. It can lead to tumor as well. Otherwise it seems normal that your pet is expecting. Precautionary measures that you are talking for it are alright. If it feels more comfortable with what you are doing with it then carry on this procedure and don't go for other things. May be that will not be very suitable for it.

You should consult your vet because symptoms indicating towards Mastitis. It occurs during pregnancy. We can find it when only one or two of nipples are swollen or lumpy. It can be cured but it is deadly disease if not to treat properly.
