Answer Question

The followers of the Candomble religion have a ritual which is knows as the Torque. This ritual, the torque can be divided into two signifcant parts. The first part is called the preparation and in this part only the saints, the priests, the initiates and their aidees participate. This is infact the prepartion for the second part which is for the general public. In the first part, food is prepared, decoratiosn are made and animals are slaughters for the food and for sacrifices. The second part of the ritual is the public part, with a mass followed by a banquet.

In the public part of the ceremony or ritual, Torque, the children-of-saint ( who are also known as the medianic priests) invoke and then "incorporate" the Orixás, by falling into a trance-like state. After having fallen into this trance, the priest-spirits perform the dances that are symbolic of the Orixá's attributes, while the babalorixá or  the father of the saint (who is a leading male priest) leads the songs that celebrate the deeds of the spirit. The ceremony finally ends with a banquet around midnight.

The Candomblé music, which is an essential part of the ritual, derives from theAfrican music and has had a strong influence in the other popular and non-religious Brazilian music styles. The word batuque, for example, has also entered the Brazilian vernacular and language as a synonym of " the rhythmic percussion of music".
