In Training Two Shih Tzus, 9 Weeks Old, Do I Take Both Outside At The Same Time Or Separately?
I have read a lot about dog training but am not sure about how to handle two puppies. They will be nine weeks old when I get them in a few weeks. In training for obedience, do I work with both or one at a time. Would the same apply for potty training?

Hi Mari!
Fifteen years ago our female had 11 puppies. They followed their mom and learned how to use the doggie door and what to do outside from her, making our job much easier.
Since you won't have their mom as an example, be sure the pups know you are the Alpha dog, the pack leader, treating them as their mother would.
I suggest working with each pup individually for a specified time each day each day getting them used to you, the leash and the commands, teaching each of them the same things in the same manner before going out with them together, as a pack.
Once they get used to you, being on the leash, the commands, and what is expected of them, they will respond more appropriately to you and the commands with much less effort.
I also found 'Dog Whisperer' with Cesar Millan (on the National Geographic channel) to be a great resource, even after 45 years of owning dogs I still pick up tips!
The best of luck to you and your new companions; I'll keep you all in my thoughts.
Please be sure to drop me a 'shout' to let me know how this progresses!

It would probably be good to take both of them out.dogs usually watch each other and tend to copy each other.hopefully one will watch the other and catch on.

You wanna take them out together. Especially if one is catching on quicker. They will learn from each other and copy each other. One of my favorite tricks, if they go in the house, put it outside and show it to them. When they smell it out there and see it they kinda get the idea. It really helps.

Separately, otherwise they get distracted by each other and won't do there biz!
Thank you!

The best thing to do is take them out together they will learn from each other and it is a whole lot easier.

I think for the best effect in making the training successful you should take them out one at a time. I think that if they were out there together, they might be more interested in playing instead of doing their business. At least until they are older, then I would start doing so, once the training has sunk in. Hope this helps, good luck.
