How Do You Speed Up Windows XP?

Answer Question

There are many ways of speeding up your Windows XP. One of the ways is to increase your Random Access Memory (RAM) in your computer. RAMs are easily available at computer stores and are quite cheap. The higher the RAM, the faster the computer will perform. You can also increase your hard disk memory as too much data on the computer makes it slow. Clear out temporary files that are collected by the internet explorer. You can clean out the files and other internet history by going into the internet explorer options. Windows XP's minimum requirement is 1 GHZ processor speed and 128MB RAM. Make sure to upgrade these two things in case you want to speed up your Windows XP.

First thing to do, is close any unescessary processes running. Like software etc which isn't needed. Then, clean up your HDD with the microsoft tool named "Disk Cleanup" after that, Defragmentate the HDD. After that, the next stage (if it didn't speed it up properly) is to check your hardware, and think about upgrading it. The first thing you should look at is more RAM. That's the cheapest way to increase your pc's performance. 1GB is fine, but if you wish to do a bit of multitasking, get 2GB. (about £20 for 2x 1GB sticks) After that, you should look for a new CPU - you can pick up a cheap dual core nowadays which is suitable. (Roughly £40 in the UK) to handle most home user applications. There is also a possibility of your pc having adware, trojans etc so a viruz scan may prove fruitful. If you so wish, you could reformat your HDD and reinstall Windows XP so you won't have anything unescessary on your HDD, which takes up space and can slow your pc's performance.
