When Was Leyton Orient Football Club Founded?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Leyton Orient Football Club was founded in 1881 and was originally part of Glyn Cricket Club.
As was popular with many cricket teams towards the end of the 19th century, the Glyn Cricket Club decided to play football during the winter months to keep up their physical fitness levels so that they would be ready to return to cricket the following year.

However, the club did not set out with the name of Leyton Orient. After it's connection with Glyn, it became Eagle FC in 1886, then Orient Football Club in 1888. This went on to become Clapton Orient in 1898 and finally Leyton Orient during the Second World War. Although there was a period of the club being known as Orient again between 1966-1987.

Leyton Orient play at the Matchroom Stadium which has a capacity for almost 8,000 people.
The club currently resides in the League One division after being promoted from League Two in the 2005/06 season.
