Body language means all the ways we communicate without speaking. In its fullest sense it includes facial expressions (smiling, frowning etc); unconscious gestures such as waving your hands when you speak; deliberate gestures like pointing; movements, such as stepping back from someone or getting closer to them; and posture (standing upright, hunched over etc.)

Body language is very important because it tells us a lot about someone's mood, whether they are relaxed or fearful etc. By studying a person's body language, we can often guess whether they are speaking the truth, whether they feel friendly or hostile towards us and many other things. If you deal with different cultures, it's even more necessary to learn the basics of body language, as each culture has its own system (for instance, certain gestures which are friendly in one country are rude in another.)

You can get some basic tips on the subject from this body language website There are also numerous books and courses on the subject.
