What Was The Treaty Of Greenville All About?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The issue of land was one of the most critical issues that the new United States government had to deal with after gaining independence from the British government.  The question of the ownership of land concerning whether it is the property of the Native Americans who were settled there before the American colonists came or was the possession of the American colonists who captured the land of the Native Americans and settled there themselves.

Nevertheless this issue needed a sound solution and a decision, that eventually went in the favor of the American colonists as George Washington, the first president of the United States, displayed his partiality towards the American colonists and forced the Native Americans to surrender with an army of soldiers.  Finally after the passage of two years, the Native Americans surrendered and signed the Treaty of Greenville, which had them abdicating their land to the American colonists.
