Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Martin Luther was a German priest, monk, professor, theologian and church reformer. He was born in Eisleben, Germany on November 10, 1483. He translated the Bible into German and simplified the art of translation by introducing many new rules. His teachings and writings formed the basis of the Reformation and also had a deep impact on the beliefs of the Lutheran and Protestant branches of Christianity. His teachings came at the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of a new era in the Western Civilisation, namely the Modern Era.

The best-known hymn composed by Martin Luther is A Mighty Fortress is Our God. He was known for his outspoken and controversial views about the Jewish community, which have been described as anti-Semitic. He reintroduced the practice of marriage among clerics by breaking his own vow of celibacy on June 13, 1525, when he wed Katharina von Bora. He died at the age of 62 in his birthplace, Eisleben, on February 18, 1546.
