What Are Some Dos And Don'ts For Teaching A Class?

Some people will have already had teaching training when they first teach a class, some people will just have a strong knowledge base and therefore end up emulating the style of their teachers.  This can be a positive or a negative.  Here are some simple dos and donts which can help out:

DO

Treat each students as if they are special.  Students who believe they are special, tend to work harder and achieve more.

Prepare fully but be willing to go off book if necessary.

Vary your teaching methods (i had a teacher trainer who taught me this by teaching me about teaching by ALWAYS using the same teaching/learning method)

Lead by example

DONT

Expect too much, or too little

Belittle anyone in the room, you will end up the bad 'guy'.

Shout or raise your voice

Talk badly about anyone in the class

Expect people to do anything that you wouldn't do, or expect people to do things that you would necessarily do!
