How To Become A Brain Surgeon?

The brain has millions of neural connections and weighs only 3 pounds. To cut one open you require nerves of steel, guts and intellect.

Find out first if you have what it takes to become a brain surgeon. Brain surgeon needs skill, stamina and dexterity, to be cool, in addition to having the patience to train for 14-15 years.

Then, you need to take admission in a good college to complete a 4 year pre medical degree. Some colleges require only 3 years of pre medical studies. Be mentally prepared to face the intense competition. Schools will look at your transcripts, your MCAT score and letter of recommendation as well as your participation in extra curricular activities.

Then you undergo four years of undergraduate study and four years of medical school. Some schools combine pre med and medical school into a six year program.

After, this you need to complete six years of residency in neurosurgery. Now you will be paid for your services. You may need to spend another year or two to do advanced study in neurosciences.

Then you have to pass a license exam in your state. Then apply for board certification in neurosurgery. Then you look for a job through your professional network.

If you have to ask this question, maybe being a brain surgeon is not the career path for you.
