Reading is twinned with the following towns:

Dusseldorf, Germany - first link 1947, officially since 1975.

Clonmel, Ireland - since 1994.

San Francisco Libre, Nicaragua - since 1994. The Mayor of Reading launched a special appeal regarding Hurricane Mitch in 1998, which cost hundreds of people their homes and possessions. The public responded greatly and funds were sent. The Mayor of San Francisco responded by stressing that Reading's rapid response to the incident had saved many lives, and offered his thanks.

Speightstown, Barbados - since 2003. Attending the twinning meeting was His Excellency, The High Commissioner for Barbados, Mr Peter Simmons and the Deputy High Commissioner, Mr Herbert Yearwood.
