The film 'Bend It like Beckham' released in America in the August of 2003, almost a year after its actual release. The movie has enjoyed exceptional success in Europe and Britain and did exceptionally well even at the US box office. Within the first five weeks of its release, it was being screened in 216 theatres and had grossed approximately 4.3 million dollars.
A survey done at the time suggested that the average collections for each theatre turned out to be somewhere near $6369. By October 2003, it was shown in 380 theatres across the country. The overall US Box office collections for the movie went up to $33 million. The success of the movie was accounted to its light humor and its apt portrayal of intergenerational as well as cultural differences and pressures.
