First of all, you need to think about which elements your book has in it, and which elements override others. If There is lots of romance in your novel, then it would be classed as a romance novel. If your stories have unrealistic elements then it would probably be best to class it as a fantasy novel.

Have a look at some other novels around to help you think about which catagory yours falls into. For example, if your book is similar to a novel like 'The Lord of the Rings', then it will be of the fantasy genre.

Having a literary agent is useful, as they may be able to help pitch your novel as a certain genre. Alternatively, you could send your completed manuscript off to a company who critique manuscripts, though you do sometimes have to pay a substantial fee for this kind of service (possibly around £200).
