Was Jimmy Carter Involved In The Iranian Embassy Siege?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Iranian Embassy Siege was an event that occurred in the 1980s and had nothing to do with President Jimmy Carter. The six men who stormed the embassy were later found to have been trained and prepared by the Iraqis in a move to embarrass the Iranians internationally.
The hostage takers were from a little known group known as the DRMLA or the "Democratic Revolutionary Movement for the Liberation of Arabistan". The quick response of the British Government in sending in the highly trained SAS to take the hostage takers out in part proves that the Americans had nothing to do with it. It may have however brought a little satisfaction to Jimmy Carter to see the Iranians get a taste of their own medicine. The rescue mission that followed was only authorised by Margaret Thatcher after one of the hostages was shot and his body thrown outside.
