Cassandra Peterson played the character of 'Elvira' in the 1988 flick 'Elvira Mistress of the Dark'. The movie tells the story of Elvira, who is the host of a horror show on television. When she declines her boss' offer to spend the night with him she ends up loosing her job. She soon finds out that she is heir to one of her aunt's ancient mansions which is located in New England.
When Elvira decides to go live there she creates a huge ruckus among all the conservative oldies that are startled by her clothes, her tone and everything else that she gets along with her. The house is also home to enchanting magical phenomena. It was the role that made Cassandra 'Elvira' Peterson a household name. Not only did her popularity soar but it also brought along with it Cassandra's trademark vamp look; her low cut gothic black dress and her big black hair.
