    The Italian Rivera is located in the north-west of Italy. The entire coastal region facing the Gulf of Genoa in Liguria region of Italy makes up the Italian Rivera. The area known to the Italians as "Riviera ligure" is sandwiched between and the mountains formed by the Apennines and the Alps.

    Liguria is composed of four districts namely Imperia, Savona, Genoa and La Spezia. The port city of Genoa is the capital of Liguria region and has an airport just north. The population of Liguria is approximately one million six hundred and ten thousand and it covers an area of 5422 kilometres.

    The Italian Riviera is popular amongst both Italian and foreign tourists. The area is popular for its natural beauty, seaside, old world charm, sunshine and gorgeous climate. Prominent places along the Rivera include Alassio, Bergeggi Island, Gallinara Island, Palmaria Islands and La Spezia to name a few.
