Algeria is currently rule by a Semi-presidential republic government. Their current President is Abdelaziz Bouteflika, while the Prime Minister of Algeria is Abdelaziz Belkhadem.

The President of the Republic is also the head of state. He is an elected President with a 5-year term which is renewable just once. The President is not only the one who heads the Council of Ministers but also the High Security Council. It is the President who then appoints the Prime Minister. In Algeria, the Prime Minister is considered to also be the head of government. The Council of Ministers is appointed by the Prime Minister.

The country has a bicameral parliament, which is made up of a lower chamber, that is, the National People's Assembly (APN) as well as an upper chamber, which is the Council Of Nation.
